What's a QR Code and why are yours so different?

What's with those square barcodes everywhere?

QR codes are everywhere and they're at the heart of our system, enabling us to create identifable tags you can stick anywhere!

Tell me about QR Codes and how it all works?

QR code(or Quick Response code) is a square 3D barcode image with some information encoded in it.

It could be regular text, a web address, even an entire business card. QR codes are designed to be scanned using camera-enabled mobile phones. All you need to do in order to access the content of a QR code is to point the camera at it.

QR codes were invented in 1994 by a Japanese company called Denso-Wave. And now that smartphones with cameras are commonplace they're used in ads, product packaging, books, games, stickers and a millions other ways. Usually they contain the contact details of advertisers or links to product details on a website.

Our codes are location aware, that means when a tag is scanned it (with permission) can relay the location of the tag back to the owner, then it prompts the finder to send some contact details so the item can be returned.

To read QR codes, you will first need to download QR scanning software to your mobile phone, it's very easy and can come in handy for other uses as well.

On the right-hand side there's links to some popular apps to do this.

Not got a smart phone? Time to hit up that Geeky friend (everyone has one), we're sure they'll be more than happy to show off their super new phone to scan the tag for you!

What's the Geeky stuff! What happens when someone scans a tag then!

It's not magic, or even rocket science! All the data we need is stored on the tag, your name, email address and item name all embedded in those squiggles and dots! It's all encoded of course, but we don't store a single byte of your information!
